Boo! It's almost Halloween, friends. Do you enjoy being scared? I used to be an adventure junkie: hitchhiking, sky diving, ice climbing, bungee-jumping, you name it. If it scared me, I wanted to do it. As a recovering feeling-squasher I realize I craved it because it was one of the few ways I really felt alive. As I get older (and I dare say wiser) my adventures have shifted from external stimuli to more internal: losing a parent, changing careers, becoming a life coach, speaking my truth (even when it causes conflict), setting ridiculous goals, claiming what I want, showing up in relationships (all of me, not just the ‘good’ parts). The common theme among these is vulnerability (which, to me, is much scarier than jumping out of an airplane). However, the payoff is also much greater: a deeper sense of peace and self worth versus a fleeting adrenaline high. Don’t kid yourself. I’d paddle class IV rapids in Turkey tomorrow if given the chance, but I also know that I have plenty of challenges of the heart and soul that will help me continue to grow towards the best version of me there is.
